Transparency in Coverage

The Transparency in Coverage Rule is a federal regulation that requires group health plans and health insurance issuers to disclose pricing information for items and services through an online Price Comparison Tool and machine-readable files.
Price Comparison Tool
The Price Comparison Tool is an internet-based self-service tool that allows members to receive an estimate of their cost-sharing responsibility for 500 covered items and services. The Price Comparison Tool for HMSA and Kaiser plans can be found at the links below.

Machine-Readable Files
The Transparency in Coverage Final Rules requires most group health plans and health insurance issuers to disclose pricing information for in-network provider rates and out-of-network allowed amounts for covered items and services on machine readable files. These files are large and may not be useful for members as it is intended to provide opportunities for research and data analysis by third party developers and researchers. Members that want to estimate their costs should use the Price Comparison Tool. Machine-readable files for HMSA and Kaiser plans can be found at the links below.
